Melding digital with organic and manipulated sound with  abstract images, Hugues Clément deploys glitch, 3D modelling and graphic interventions in playful, poetic and sometimes brightly kitschy ways. His visual collages are both uncanny and inviting, destabilizing recognizable sights in the natural world with electronic stutters and unexpected digital data forms. Informed by his studies in   electroacoustics,  and c o m p o s i t i o n s f o r t h e a t re a n d contemporary dance, Clément’s works include audiovisual performances, videomapping, design, VJ sets and visual installations. Since winning the Société des arts technologiques’s Bourse Euterke for emerging VJs in 2011 in Montreal, he's pushed the limits of audiovisual art and digital manipulation to pose the question: What is real? His GLEAM project, based on the de/contextualization of caverns, won first prize from both jury  and audience at MUTEK Montreal’s The Crystal Interface competition in 2014, while in 2017 he received the bronze medal for Digital Creation at international cultural event Jeux de la Francophonie in Abidjan. Since 2016, he is a recurrent member of the jury for the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, His work have notably been presented at MUTEK (CA), MUTEK Dubai (AE), Igloofest (CA), Made in NY Media Center (US), Palais des Paris (JP), Paris Transient festival (FR), MADATAC (ES), Files (BR) and Circle of light/Moscow light festival (RU).
